Ladies’ Library Association

The Ladies’ Library Association, organized in 1852, grew out of a reading club started in 1844. As the first women’s organization in Michigan and the third in the United States, it had a profound influence on the early promotion of education for women and girls and the development of community libraries. It has been recently renovated to make it completely accessible for all guests. There is handicap parking in the lot to the south and the handicap access is on the south side of the building. There is an elevator to the second floor and two large unisex bathrooms. The tables in the dining area are convenient for a wheelchair.
